Bowyer’s late controversial goal steals point from Manchester United

Manchester United have regained the Premier League top spot but only on goal difference, as a controversial Lee Bowyer goal earned Birmingham a draw at St Andrews tonight.

United went ahead in the 58 th minute when Dimitar Berbatov and Darron Gibson combined create the opportunity. Berbatov drove his shot past former United ‘keeper Ben Foster and just inside the post.

The in-form striker also hit the post before the late drama.

Birmingham;s Nikola Zigic appeared to have handled the ball before Bowyer snatched the late equaliser in the 90 th minute.

The Blues are back out of the relegation zone as a result, whilst United are only ahead of rivals Man City because of a six goal difference.
