Bullets sent in packages to Celtic’s Neil Lennon and Niall McGinn

Postage workers at the Royal Mail sorting office in County Antrim intercepted packages containing bullets which were meant for Celtic manager Neil Lennon and player Niall McGinn.

The workers intercepted the packages, which were bound for Celtic Football Club in Glasgow, last week at the office in Mallusk.

Police in Northern Ireland said officers were called to Mallusk office on January 5 after postal workers reported suspicions about two items of mail.

The items were removed for further examination, and police are investigating the incident.

A spokesman for Celtic said: "It is now a police matter and the club has no further comment to make."

Police are investigating the incident and have asked anyone with information to come forward.

Incidents of this nature are unfortunately nothing new to Lennon, who received death threats in the past over alleged claims that he wanted to play for a team that represented a united Ireland.

Former Derry City winger McGinn made his debut for Celtic in September 2009 and has ten caps for the Northern Ireland senior team.
