In his first game of inter-county football since he returned from Oz, Dublin’s Ciaran Kilkenny racked up 2-10 for the county’s U21s against Carlow tonight.
When we heard that Castleknock youngster Ciaran Kilkenny had decided to turn his back on a career in Australian Rules football with Hawthorn to return to Dublin we were delighted as GAA fans.
One of the most exceptional dual talents in the country, Kilkenny had already made a mark at senior level, scoring 0-3 in the Dubs defeat to Mayo in the All-Ireland semi-final.
Shortly after that he headed off to Melbourne but he announced his decision to return for good in the new year and tonight he returned to GAA action for the Dublin U21 footballers.
It is safe to say he made an instant impact. Based on what the good folks at @DubMatchTracker tweeted tonight, Kilkenny scored 2-10 as Dublin routed Carlow 4-27 to 0-2. Rather neatly, he bagged 1-5 in each half.
As comebacks go, it wasn’t bad. Jim Gavin must be licking his lips.
