For the first time ever, Dublin will host a Comic Relief benefit concert at Vicar Street.

Comic Relief celebrates its 25th anniversary this year in helping combat poverty in third world countries. This year, Dublin is getting involved with a fundraiser in Vicar Street on February 28.
The acts will include Paddy Casey, Keywest, Bipolar Empire, Jemson Green, Walking On Cars and The Enemies but there will also be a few surprise acts. UK comedian Joel Dommett will also provide entertainment on the night.
Twenty per cent of the profits raised at the ‘Give-A-Gig’ benefit event will also go to Our Lady’s Children Hospital, Crumlin. Comic Relief was founded by comedian Lenny Henry (pictured below) and comedy scriptwriter Richard Curtis back in 1985 to combat famine in Ethiopia. To date, the charity has raised over £600 million and is at work in over 70 countries.

The Red Nose Day funds going to Crumlin’s children hospital will assist with bringing quality care to children and adolescents. It is Ireland’s largest paediatric hospital and it’s good to see that they will be getting something out of the gig.
Bringing Comic Relief to Dublin is Dublin City FM presenter Daniela Liebing, who suggested an Irish band’s song as Comic Relief’s official single. However, the official charity single had already been chosen and the fundraiser staff approached Daniela with the idea of putting together a show, getting musicians and comedians from Ireland and the UK involved.
Tickets for the benefit concert are €18 and are available at Ticketmaster. In case you’re wondering, the concert will be an over 18’s event.
