Connector’s Diary: Part 2

The second part of Connector's Diary of a Start Up outlines its evolution from a social blog to a social media business.

JOE

The second part of Connector’s Diary of a Start Up, written by Connector founder Conor Lynch, outlines its evolution from a social blog to a social media business.

Last time we were telling you how we evolved from a social blog to social events to a social media business.

Recent research done by O2 showed that social media is not used by about 85% of Irish businesses.

There is a huge difference between personal usage and business usage. Even though there are 1.4m Irish people on Facebook, only 15% of Irish SME’s have a Facebook page.

In the last month we have started to clarify the services we offer, which we will now share with you. Many people think that just because they have a website or a Facebook page they are doing social media marketing.

The truth is that, for getting the most of social media, you need to create a strategy: know your business objectives, plan your actions and measure the results.

At Connector we know a thing or two about digital and social media so we thought we could share our knowledge as well as our connections. That’s why Connector Training kicked off in April 2010.

Connector Training

Our courses are focused on training clients how to manage their social media marketing.

The first Connector Training course was on to Social Media, a half-day overview of the most common social media tools and techniques. Then we started the Digital and Social Media Workshop, a full day course which covered the Connector 10C’s Model, ten steps which help clients to create their own social media marketing strategies.

Due to time pressures we will also offer online video training and webinars, so you can learn from the contest of your home or office.

We are also aware that not every company has the resources or is willing to do this by their own. Social media is time-consuming and the results are not visible overnight, so many companies prefer to outsource this services. That’s why we are also offering different consulting services.

Connector Consulting

Connector Clinic: one-to-one consultations where we audit your actions, diagnose the problems and suggest solutions to improve the return on your social media investment.

Social Media Partners: involves a longer-term relationship, it is focused on businesses, organisations and communities. Through this partnership our team plans, creates, executes and evaluates their marketing activities and it can also design personalised training courses according to the client’s needs.

Connector Events: But at Connector we think the online strategies should be backed up with offline actions. A way to implement this idea is through events. Besides the free monthly networking events that we organise, we can also manage events for our clients. Our biggest one was the launch and the awards night for digital video contest that we organised for the launch of Canon Alegria camcorders.

In the last few weeks we have been very busy meeting many businesses, organisations and communities to discuss Social Media Partnerships. Next time on JOE.ie we will tell you more about these exciting new developments.
