The Irish League of Credit Unions last night offered a reward of €50,000 for any information that could lead to arrests and prosecutions in the case of murdered Garda Adrian Donohoe.

The announcement came on RTE’s Crimecall programme last night in an effort to uncover more information on the tragic death of the young father of two. Investigators are still trying to identify the culprits in the first fatal shooting of a Garda in 17 years and a spokesperson for the Credit Union said they want to assist in any way they can to see that justice is served.

“We have been inundated with calls from credit unions who have been offering support to our colleagues in Lordship Credit Union and to the gardai. They want to bring this investigation to a successful conclusion.”

“We offered this as a way of helping the gardai solve this case.”

Last night the gardai made a plea to the thief who supplied the getaway car for the killers to come forward in confidence, stating that the thief will face a charge of conspiracy to murder and 40 years in prison, if convicted, unless he co-operates with their inquiries.

The programme indicated that detectives have made significant progress in their investigation. They have established that the car, a navy-coloured Volkswagen Passat, was stolen from outside a house in Clogherhead, Co Louth, between 11.30pm last Tuesday, January 22 and 4.30am the following day morning.

This gang that the authorities have focused in on has at least 15 members and has been responsible for a spate of crimes in Louth, Armagh, Down, Cavan and Monaghan in the past couple of years.

The gardai will hope that the generous reward will encourage anyone to come forward with any relevant information.
