David Beckham will train with Spurs but not play for them

David Beckham is to spend a month with Spurs but will not be allowed to play competitively with the North Londoners.

"Tottenham Hotspur is delighted to announce that England's most capped outfield player, David Beckham will train with the first-team squad," read a statement released through the Spurs website on Sunday ahead of the team's FA Cup tie against Charlton.

"David will train with the Club until 10 February when he will be required to return to LA Galaxy ahead of the start of the MLS season."

Speaking earlier to Sky Sports News, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp made it clear that there were issues with bringing Golden Balls into the Spurs squad.

"I don't think it's going to happen, I think there are problems with the insurance," 'Arry explained.

"David is welcome to come and train here for a month or so which I think he would like to do but it looks like, as far as playing goes, it looks like a no-goer.

"It couldn't happen so, not a problem, we'll just get on with it."

A number of Premier League teams had been in the running to give Becks a temporary home, but in recent weeks Tottenham had become the clear favourites to welcome the LA Galaxy man.
