Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is coming with Jason Clarke as its lead

Zero Dark Thirty actor Jason Clarke is to star in the lead of the next instalment of the ape-world remakes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes according to The Hollywood Reporter. Thanks to his breakthrough role as CIA agent Dan in the Osama Bin Laden hunt movie, Clarke has gained notoriety as a quality actor, as well as his understated, supporting role in Lawless.

The first remake the Rise of the Planet of the Apes starred James Franco, but it is not clear if Franco will return for the sequel. Matt Reeves of Cloverfield fame will direct the follow-on, while Rupert Wyatt directed the first 2011 movie.

The storyline has been kept mostly under wraps, but it has been revealed that it is set fifteen years after the first one and will follow Caesar, the intelligent ape, played by Gollum actor Andy Serkis again. Does that guy ever play any humans? Another focus of the film will be on scientists struggling to survive alone in San Francisco.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has been penned by Mark Boback who wrote Live Free or Die Hard and the latest Total Recall remake. This inevitably means lots of action, with minimal dialogue aside from witty one-liners…

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is due to start shooting in late Spring.
