His reign was controversial. His departure was bound to be similar. It seems like Swindon will have to up their security after Paolo Di Canio made an unexpected return to the County Ground.
By Declan Whooley
Similar to Mario Balotelli, the departure of Paolo Di Canio from the English game, for now at least, will make it a quieter place, but he is going in a manner that is fitting for the former Celtic man, in a blaze of headlines.
After quitting on Monday because of a “number of broken promises”, Di Canio returned to his old office in the early hours of yesterday morning, not that the Swindon hierarchy were aware of his movements.
The Italian still had his set of keys, and according to the Swindon Advertiser he made his way in and took some of the pictures hanging on his walls, pictures of some of his best moments in his short Swindon managerial career.
The club noticed his movements on CCTV and subsequently changed the security codes at the County Ground and replaced the locks in the office.
There’s only one way to describe a man who is entertaining but also perhaps slightly deranged, a character.
