Picture the scene…
You’re watching under the Friday night lights.
Everyone waits with bated breath. Columbia River high school football team are down by one against their rivals Skyview.
There are only seconds left on the clock. Tick, tock, tick, tock. (That’s JOE’s impression of a clock).
Suddenly, Columbia River are awarded a field goal and are gifted an opportunity to win the game…
What happens next is sporting drama of the highest, and most ridiculous, order.
Successfully blocking the field goal, the Skyview players and fans run onto the pitch, prematurely celebrating their supposed victory.
Slowly but surely, the distraught Columbia River players realise that the ball hasn’t actually crossed the line of scrimmage, the game is still in play and so one quick-thinking player picks up the football and runs straight into the endzone unopposed, scoring a touchdown and winning the game.
FOOTBAWWWWWWLL!!!!!
Remember kids, as JOE’s American football-playing Granny always used to say, “Play to the godayum whistle fool!”
