The provisional Irish squad for the qualifiers against Gibraltar and Germany has been named
One of the newest countries in world football and the world champions await...
Martin O'Neill has named his 37-man provisional squad for Ireland's upcoming Euro '16 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Germany.
The Boys in Green got off to a winning start with a hard fought 2-1 victory away to Georgia but the next two games will offer completely contrasting challenges.
We shouldn't be relying on another Aiden McGeady wonder goal when we face the group minnows Gibraltar at the Aviva on Saturday, October 11 (5pm K.O). Poland beat them 7-0 in their opening game and anything less than 3 points will be a major disappointment.
A trip to Gelsenkirchen to take on Germany three days later is a whole different proposition though. Here's hoping for a classic Irish backs against the wall and defensively dogged away performance.
The squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: David Forde, Shay Given, Keiren Westwood, Darren Randolph, Rob Elliot
Defenders: Marc Wilson, Seamus Coleman, John O’Shea, Alex Pearce , Stephen Kelly, Paul McShane, Damien Delaney, Shane Duffy, James McCarthy, Jeff Hendrick, Ciaran Clark, Stephen Ward.
Midfielders: Glenn Whelan, Darron Gibson, Andy Reid, Paul Green, Aiden McGeady, Anthony Pilkington, James McClean, Robbie Brady, Stephen Quinn, David Meyler, Wes Hoolahan.
Strikers: Robbie Keane, Shane Long, Daryl Murphy, Jon Walters, Kevin Doyle, Anthony Stokes, Simon Cox, Conor Sammon
