Eriksson fails to bring Beckham to Leicester City

Leicester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has failed in his bid to sign David Beckham.

The former England head coach also tried to persuade Roque Santa Cruz and Robbie Keane to the club but failed.

The Foxes’ new owners granted Eriksson permission to bring big-name stars to the Walkers Stadium but Beckham’s agent has ruled out a possible move back to England.

"I spoke to David's agent to see if there was a chance. He said it was not possible. I knew, but I had to try," he told BBC Radio Leicester.

Eriksson has also been linked with Manchester United bit-part player Michael Owen, but denied that he has made an approach for the striker.

"I have made phone calls to all the players mentioned, apart from Michael Owen," he added.

"Most of them don't want to come to our league. If we were in the Premier League it would be much easier to get those kinds of players."
