Exactly five years on from the Grand Slam, this montage of Ronan O’Gara’s game-winning kick is class

March 21, 2009 was a hell of a day so this tweet by INPHO brings back a lot of happy memories.

The euphoria of winning the Six Nations title last Saturday was understandable for a country that doesn’t win it too often. Add in the BOD factor and the outpouring of emotion was perfectly natural.

But the way we won only our second ever Grand Slam, on this day five years ago, was even more of an achievement. Obviously we went unbeaten, which is always the ultimate way to win the Six Nations, and the manner of the win was even more dramatic than events in Paris last Saturday.

Stephen Jones had put Wales into the lead in Cardiff with a drop goal with just four minutes left on the clock. Then, with just two left, Ronan O’Gara did the same for us to hand us a slim 17-15 lead. Jones tried to kick another to win the game but it fell just short. Cue pandemonium.

The folks at INPHO decided to mark the anniversary with a lovely montage of THAT famous O’Gara kick.

Happy days.
