FAI close to securing Ireland v England friendly

The FAI are reportedly in discussion with the English Football Association to arrange a friendly international between the Republic of Ireland and England at the Aviva Stadium next summer.

The proposed game would take place on Wednesday 8 June and it would be the first time the two national sides would meet since the Landsdowne Road encounter of 1995 - a game which was infamously abandoned due to rioting from a section of England supporters.

The game could be worth an estimated €4m in value to the FAI if it gets the go-ahead.
