What a fantastic idea – put Rocky and Raging Bull stars together in a boxing comedy movie called Grudge Match
By Genna Patterson
The Twitter machine has once again impressed us, this time spouting out a picture of aging but brilliant actors Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone on the set of their new movie, Grudge Match. The actors are both famous for playing boxers – De Niro as the aggressive Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull, based on a true life story while Stallone famously reprised his role as Rocky Balboa in no less than six movies spanning from 1976 – 2006.
The picture was tweeted by NBA player Robin Lopez of the New Orleans Hornets, who said on his twitter page; “So I'm cool with Sly Stallone and Bobby De Niro no biggie. Sad that they look better than me even with all the makeup though...”

The feisty actors will play old boxing rivals enticed out of retirement to fight one late time, 50 years after their last match. Grudge Match is a comedy, so we’ll expect a lot of injuries as the men get into shape. Stallone and DeNiro also starred in Copland in 1997. De Niro is 70 years of age while Stallone is 67. Get the zimmer frames at the ready.
Grudge Match was written by Tim Kelleher (actor from Inception, Dollhouse) but the latest draft has been penned by Entourage creator Doug Ellin. Kevin Hart (The Five Year Engagement) also stars as a fight promoter. Its being directed by Peter Segal (The Longest Yard, Get Smart).
Grudge Match is aiming for a Spring 2014 release in Europe.
