A few days ago we brought you the terrific news that former Derry captain Kevin McCloy had woken up in hospital following his collapse during a recent club game.

The full-back collapsed on the pitch whilst taking a free during Lavey’s clash with Magherafelt, before being taken by ambulance to Althnagelvin Hospital in Derry.

Thankfully the 2007 All Star seemed in good spirits and he, along with his his wife Cathy, have sent this touching message to all the medical staff that helped save his life:

Kevin and Cathy would like to thank all the physio’s, doctors and paramedics for their quick thinking and life saving efforts at the scene. It was these actions along with the defibrillator that ultimately saved Kevin’s life.

We would also like to thank everyone for their prayers and support over the last week.

Kevin’s condition is improving thanks to the excellent care he is receiving at Altnagelvin Hospital.

We would ask that everyone would support the Cormac Trust at Thursday’s match, in whatever way they can.

Lastly, good luck to the boys on Friday night.

Everyone at JOE would like to wish Kevin McCloy a full and quick recovery. We would also like to express our gratitude to the brilliant work that all the medical team did in helping the Lavey man along the way.
