Former Ireland right-back Gary Kelly believes he’s the man to manage Leeds United after the controversial sacking of Brian McDermott on Friday.

McDermott received his marching orders in the midst of a takeover by Italian Massimo Cellino, who was reportedly blocked from leaving Elland Road by angry fans last night.

Kelly, who made over 500 appearances for the Whites between 1991 and 2006, is sad to see what has become of the club where he made his name.

The 39-year-old said: “The club needs someone who has the club, fans and city at heart.

“It deserves someone with that passion and desire to succeed to get back to being one of the biggest clubs in the country, exactly where the the fans, club and city belong.

“This season, looking at the current predicament, I am more than confident I can take them to the play-offs, given the right backing and support.

“I believe I have all the credentials to do this and more.”
