G-Mac honoured by golf writers with top award

Graeme McDowell has picked up yet another accolade. This time round he’s been honoured by golf writers in Ireland and Britain.

G-Mac was last night named Player of the Year by the Association of Golf Writers.

The US Open champion is only the third Irish player to win the prestigious AGW Trophy.

In 1977 the award was won by Golf Hall of Famer Christy O’Connor and for two years on the trot, in 2007 and 2008, by Padraig Harrington.

McDowell is currently in the running for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. An award which, if he wins, would cap a remarkable year for the Norn Iron man.
