Galvin facing two months on the sidelines

Footballer of the year Paul Galvin is facing a two-month suspension arising from an incident with Eoin Cadogan in Kerry's victory over Cork on Sunday.

Footballer of the year Paul Galvin could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after the Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) proposed an eight week ban for the Kerry wing forward for an incident with Cork’s Eoin Cadogan during Sunday’s Munster semi-final replay against Cork at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

The incident, in which Galvin appeared to stick his finger of the mouth of the Cork defender, was picked up in the Sunday Game’s coverage of the encounter which Kerry won by a point after extra time.

The incident was discussed by the CCCC at a meeting yesterday and referee Pat McEnaney was subsequently asked to review the incident, after which a four week ban was proposed.

Galvin has already served a four-week suspension for his role in an altercation, also with Cadogan, in a league meeting between the sides earlier in the year and as both offences were committed within 48 weeks of each other, the length of Galvin’s ban is automatically doubled.

Galvin is entitled to appeal the ban with the Central Hearings Committee (CHC), but if the ban is upheld, Kerry face being without Galvin for the Munster final against Limerick and a potential All-Ireland quarter-final on the August bank holiday weekend.
