You better make sure that your headlights are working or else you could face a €60 fine over the next two days.
A major push to make sure the nation’s cars have fully functioning lights is about to kick in. Starting tomorrow, a series of Garda checkpoints will be in place for 48 hours to ensure that car headlights are working correctly.
Called Operation Light Up, the plan is to look for faulty or inappropriate lights, as well as motorists who use fog lights when there is no fog.
While the Gardai will have the capacity to impose a €60 fine for faulty lights, they have announced the initiative today as they want people to get their lights fixed rather than face a fine.
Road Safety Authority Chief Executive Noel Brett told RTE that one in five cars are found to have defective lights during the NCT and it is a serious hazard on the nation’s roads.
Now, you can’t say you haven’t been warned.
