Brendan Rodgers has named a fairly attacking lineup against a struggling Aston Villa side at home, but it has spectacularly backfired as they found themselves two goals down in just over half an hour.

Just like last season, Christian Benteke and Andreas Weimann have combined to spell trouble for the Liverpool defence, and while the first goal from Weimann was a nice bit of counter attack football that tore the home side open, the second was some shambolic defending and goalkeeping.

A decent ball whipped in from Gabby Agbonlahor causes some serious panic as Simon Mignolet comes flapping out of his goal to try and perhaps waft the ball clear of the area, which seems to cause Glen Johnson to miss the ball. A grateful Benteke awaits at the back post, and probably wasn’t expecting it, but was able to direct it at the goal.

Daniel Sturridge managed to pull one back right before the half time break, but Liverpool and Rodgers have plenty to do get right in the second period.
