Everyone in the stands wanted a piece of Nantes striker Fernando Aristeguieta after he scored a dramatic late winner on Tuesday night. Literally, everyone.
Aristeguieta came off the bench to score an 89th minute goal that sealed a 2-1 win for Nantes over Valenciennes and considering the dramatic circumstances, he rushed to the fans behind the goal and greeted them with open arms to allow them to share in the moment.
Fans in the front row behind the goal rushed to embrace Aristeguieta but, problem was, practically everyone in the entire stand followed suit, prompting an avalanche of fans towards the front of the stand following which, thankfully, nobody was hurt.
While it’s great to see the fans become so passionate and emotionally involved with the Nantes players, it didn’t half look dangerous and no doubt the stewards and any health and safety officials present were tearing their hair out at the possibility of somebody getting hurt.
Maybe Aristeguieta should stick to the tried and tested Alan Shearer style hand in the air celebration from now on.
