The former Ireland gaffer’s application was recently turned down for the managerial position with Hannover 96 in Germany

The Bundesliga is a place where Trapattoni has been before, with arguably the biggest team going when he had his spell in charge of Bayern Munich, but he was unable to secure another after term there after Hannover 96 turned him down in favour of another candidate for their vacant manager’s position.

The Bundesliga side parted company with manager Mirko Slomka after a disappointing start to the season where they were only able to garner 18 points from their first 17 games, and sit four points above the relegation zone at the Christmas break. Club president Martin Kind and sporting director Dirk Dufner decided that a change was needed and gave Slomka the sack just under a week ago, at which point they got a few applications for the job, including from our mate Giovanni Trapattoni.

Speaking to German newspaper Bild, Kind stated that his “personal highlight” in the proess was receiving an application for the job from the veteran Italian, describing his interest in the position as an honour for the club, but that they have decided to go with 39-year-old former Turkish international Tayfun Korkut instead, with Kind adding that the decision was “no risk”.
