Going to the Offaly game this weekend? You’ll get a free cup of tea and a hang sangwich

This year is the 23rd year that Carroll’s Ham will be sponsoring the Offaly Gaelic Football and hurling teams and they’re celebrating it with a giveaway that is as quintessentially GAA as you can get.

According to the Offaly GAA website, patrons attending the Offaly v Cork camogie clash and the Offaly v Carlow NFL Division Four encounter with Carlow in O’Connor Park in Tullamore on Saturday afternoon will be treated to a complimentary cup of tea and a Carroll’s Ham sandwich provided by the county sponsor, whose logo will feature on the new Offaly jersey which will be revealed after the football match. There will also be a free raffle and giveaways on the day.

Nothing screams GAA like a cup of tea and a hang sangwich at a match, which has been the staple diet of supporters nationwide for generations.

In fact, no GAA road trip would be complete without a container full of heavily buttered hang sangwiches in the back seat, sandwiches that are generally somewhere between lukewarm and piping hot by the time they get around to being eaten having been stewing in the boot for a number of hours.

Fair play to Carroll’s for providing nourishment on the day; if they can throw in a free pack of Tayto crisps and a purple Snack, then fans at the game will have themselves a proper feast.
