Fancy becoming a member of An Garda Síochána? Well your dreams could very well come true as Justice Minister Alan Shatter has announced that recruiting will start up again next year.

According to reports today, the Garda recruitment ban is to be overturned next year, but there’s no word yet as to how many new recruits the Gardaí will be looking for.

The move comes after the recruitment plan was given the go-ahead by Public Spending Minister Brendan Howlin. Mr Shatter made the announcement at a graduation for Garda Reservists at the Garda College in Templemore today.

He has previously said that he doesn’t want the strength of the force to drop below 13,000.

So if you’re currently out of a job and you’ve always fancied getting into the Gardaí then you might want to start doing a few push-ups…
