Paul Martin, the man who amazingly succeeded in getting many Irish people to support Brian Kennedy, is reportedly one of the journalists to lose their jobs at the Irish Daily Mirror.

Trinity Mirror, the parent company of the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and People newspapers, is cutting 75 more jobs, and Martin, the former editor of the Irish Sunday Mirror and associate editor of the daily edition with special renown for showbiz stories, is regarded as one of the most high-profile lay-offs.

The Englishman hit the headlines last month following a series of spats with singer Brian Kennedy, both on TV3’s Celebrity Come Dine With Me show and a follow-up double interview given to Brendan O’Connor on The Saturday Night Show on RTE 1, when an angry Kennedy stormed off the set.

But those appearances seem to have been Martin’s last as an Irish Daily Mirror journalist, with regular RTE political contributor Eamonn Mallie tweeting:

The latest round of staff cuts follows the cull of 200 jobs by Trinity Mirror last year, which equated to about a quarter of its total work-force.
