Here’s six of the more interesting things up for a vote at GAA Congress this year

Today all the motions up for debate at Congress 2013 were published by the GAA. How would you vote on these?

Another change to the Hurling Championship

Despite saying that the constant chopping and changing is damaging to the Championship, the powers that be are looking at tweaking it again. Starting in 2014 with 15 teams, by 2016 only 13 teams would battle for Liam MacCarthy, with the rest dropped into Rackard and Meagher Cups with the chance of promotion and relegation. The Football Review Committee proposals

With 21 motions in this, who knows how much will or won’t pass. The black card, the mark, extra punishment for delay of free kicks, changes to the pick-up rule and the introduction of a clock similar to ladies football are all up for debate. Some big changes are coming we suspect.

New deadline for team naming

A proposal is in for teams to be provided to the media four days before matches. As you can imagine, we like this one.

Hawkeye

As we told you yesterday, if this one gets the nod, by June we will have technology deciding scores at Croker.

Additional branding

The possibility to allow second sponsors is also up for debate. The days of the humble GAA jersey looking plain appear to be over. We can’t see the delegates turning down more sponsorship money.

Expansion to anti-sectarianism and anti-racism rules

A broader definition of these offences, for players and fans, is needed and we expect this to pass too.
