Houllier hopes to sign Manchester City full-back

Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has confirmed his interest in bringing Manchester City full-back Wayne Bridge to Villa Park on loan.

The under-pressure manager hopes that a move will happen soon, despite already signing Tottenham full-back Kyle Walker on loan.

“There has been dialogue (regarding Bridge). But it is true we have been talking to them,” Houllier said.

Aston Villa have also been linked with a move for Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun.

There remains uncertainty over striker John Carew’s future at the club, as West Brom have declared their interest.

“I know at some stage there were talks with West Brom (about Carew). I don't know where it will lead to,” Houllier said.

“But to me Carew is an Aston Villa player and, as soon as he is available and fit, I will be delighted to have him in the squad and to play.”
