Internet rages over Sickipedia Muamba joke

A joke about stricken Bolton Wanderers footballer Fabrice Muamba posted on Sickipedia this evening has sent the web into an outrage.

The FA Cup quarter-final tie between Tottenham and Bolton at White Hart Lane was abandoned after Muamba collapsed on the field and was rushed to hospital.

It was later reported that paramedics had managed to resuscitate the 23-year-old midfielder, although at the time of writing there was no confirmation of his wellbeing.

With football professionals and supporters all over the world in shock at the developments at White Hart Lane, one internet poster seriously misjudged the mood by posting an attempted “funny” about Muamba on the risqué joke-board Sickipedia moments after the player collapsed.

The joke, which has since been deleted, referenced the betting-in-running ads routinely served by the online bookmaker Bet365 and starring the English actor Ray Winstone. It read:

It may have attracted a host of retweets, and we’d like to know the type of people among the 31 who “favorited” the tweet, but the tone representing the vast majority of the reaction was disgust:
