It won’t be missed: Five of the worst Oxegen performances

The news that Oxegen will not take place in 2012 will be sad news for Amanda Brunker's three fans, but not for much else. Here are the festival's five worst performances.

Amanda Brunker - Oxegen 2011

Last summer the 2011 European Music Festival study analysed 64 large music festivals and concluded that Oxegen was the best festival in Europe last summer.

This is despite the fact that the organisers replaced worldwide sensation Jessie J (suffering from a broken foot at the time) on the headline stage with Amanda Brunker, whose vocals were akin to a cat giving birth.

Performing one song - a U2 cover - with a continental wedding band called Gitano, the Charity You're A Star contestant trotted off stage soon enough, allowing much more accomplished musicians to make amends for the musical afterbirth concertgoers had just witnessed.

Amy Winehouse - Oxegen 2008

Too soon? Of course the world lost of one the best female vocalists of all time this summer but we can't ignore the fact that fans of Amy Winehouse weren't always treated to the most professional of performances. To put it mildly, Amy's 2008 performance was the most talked about of the festival and not for the right reasons - as evidenced above.

Counting Crows - Oxegen 2008

Yes, 'Mr Jones' wasn't a bad song but let's not forget that the Counting Crows are responsible for that Shrek song, 'Accidentally in Love'. Showing up with a set list that would make Hootie & the Blowfish sound edgy, the band were clearly going to be a terrible choice.

Out of tune, dishevelled and generally rubbish, it's hard to fully encapsulate how bad their performance - at least it would be if we didn't have the above video. Skip to 2.40 to see lead singer Adam Duritz have an oul sit down before yelping uncontrollably a few seconds later. That's true showmanship.

Black Eyed Peas - Oxegen 2011

Anyone remember the Black Eyed Peas' horrendous Super Bowl halftime show? OK, now multiply the length of that show six times and then throw in a completely unnecessary and self-indulgent 'DJ Set' and constant Motorola plugs (the band are sponsored by them) from Will.i.am halfway through.

Beginning the show as they meant to end it - tragically - Will.i.am first addressed his Irish fans by stating: "When they told us we were coming to Ireland to play the O2... I mean Oxegen. I'm sorry. I know it's Oxegen."

Yes Will.i.am, the O2 is the country's biggest music venue and not in fact a muddy field full of pissed teenagers trying to finger one another.

Ke$ha - Oxegen 2011

With a trashy, smelly aesthetic and tuneless vocals, Ke$ha is pretty much the female Frankie Cocozza, albeit she has a record deal.

Showing up with her Auto-tune levels set on 'Robotic skank', the apparently not-quite-a-one-hit-wonder ran through her catalogue of hits - including 'Tik Tok' (12.8 million sales in 2010 alone), which has sold more copies than any Beatles song. Isn't that depressing? Either way, if you can make it through two minutes of the below clip you may win a prize of some sort.
