Arsene Wenger gave him a mild bollocking this morning and now Jack Wilshere has taken to Twitter to respond to the ‘caught smoking’ story.

Pictures emerged this week of Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere holding a cigarette outside a nightclub.

In this morning’s press conference, Arsene Wenger wasn’t too pleased, saying: “I disagree completely with that behaviour. I don’t know really what happened, I need to have a chat with him about that.

“There’s two things: first of all, when you are a footballer you are an example, and [second] you don’t do what damages your health. But when you do it in public, you damage your reputation as well.”

Sounds like Jack is headed for the naughty step, though the player claims he was the victim of a prank by his team-mates.

A club spokesperson said that England international does not smoke, doesn’t condone smoking and the picture was part of a prank, the butt of a joke if you’ll pardon the pun.

Anyway, in the last few minutes, Wilshere took to Twitter to post these two responses. Well played.
