January transfer window opens, but Alex Ferguson won’t be using it

Alex Ferguson won't be buying any new players during the transfer window, but he will loan out his teen striker Federico Macheda.

Manchester United's veteran head honcho says that there will "definitely not" be any new arrivals joining the fold at Old Trafford this month.

This follows the same pattern as last year, when Fergie kept the transfer window firmly shut in January, choosing to focus on shaking up the personnel under his charge in August.

He will, however, seek to find a temporary home for Italian striker Federico Macheda from now until the end of the season in a bid to increase the 19-year-old's top-flight experience.

Macheda has made seven appearances in the Premier League so far this season and has been linked with Roma, Bolton and his former club Lazio.

Ferguson confirmed that forwards Danny Welbeck and Mame Biram Diouf will remain on loan at Sunderland and Blackburn respectively.

"I had a chat with Federico and explained the Welbeck situation," Ferguson said.

"It can pan out exactly the same for him. It would be the same thing, going to a club, getting that experience for six months and coming back to us a better player."
