Jersey Shore’s Vinny Guadagnino demonstrates how not to launch a clothing line

These days anyone that’s appeared on telly for more than a single episode of reality TV has enough clout to launch their clothing label, with entire websites dedicated to this ever-growing phenomenon. In a world of celeb endorsements, where has-been Jessica Simpson is still relevant or the 11-year-old actor that plays Manny Delgado in the hit sitcom Modern Family has his own line, who are we to begrudge Vinny Guadagnino, the non-juiced up male cast member of MTV’s Jersey Shore, for testing the waters?

Of course, anyone who has ever even caught a glimpse of Jersey Shore can tell you plenty on the questionable fashion stylings of the male cast members – namely, a combination of Ed Hardy t-shirts, sunglasses worn indoors (at nightclubs mostly), ‘blowout’ hairstyles and pink t-shirts. As the main trendsetters of what is referred to as the ‘Guido’ subculture in the U.S, there’s plenty of opportunity in the market for a member of the hit TV show to put their name to a debut clothing line – just don’t expect said collection to be anything other than terrible.

Two elder Guidos enjoy the launch party

Following in the footsteps of Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino’s DILLIGAF line (charmingly abbreviated from ‘Do I Look Like I Give A F**) and co-star J-WOWW’s short-lived Filthy Couture range (shut down due to trademark issues), Vinny unveiled his new t-shirt clothing line, IHAV, at the Greenhouse Club in New York this week. The label stands for I Have A Vision and a portion of the proceeds from Vinny’s first t-shirt will go to DoSomething.org, a website that promotes volunteerism amongst teens.

Out of the Jersey Shore members, it’s fair to say that Vinny has to be the most level-headed, so it’s no suprise to see that his venture is probably the least crass merchandising venture to yet spring from the ever-bountiful, money-grabbing reality TV hit. Having said that, fashion is fashion and wearing an ill-fitting grey blazer, jeans and a t-shirt with a scantily-clad lady and the message ‘F**k Bullies!’ is more than worthy of a place in our hallowed column.

Vinny, we’re sure you’re a lovely young man and the label is all for a good cause but we’ll put it to you as simply as possible – when we googled ‘IHAV Clothing’. Google responded ‘Did you mean CHAV clothing?’. Sometimes that search engine is too damn clever for its own good.
