When we heard that a gang in Belgium recently stole €37 million from a runway in Belgium without being noticed. We wanted to know how.
It seems an incredible amount to get away with, and the 20 passengers that had taken their seats on a Belgian flight bound for Zurich, Switzerland on Monday night had no idea that a massive diamond heist was going on in the cargo-hold below.
So how on earth did they pull it off?
Well, it all started when eight men in two cars broke through a fence at Brussels airport a little before 8pm on Monday night and held up a Brinks security van that was transferring diamonds onto a Swiss bound flight.
The gang took the 120 parcels of diamonds, weighing a total of 10kg and with their new found fortune, drove back in the direction they had come in what seems one of the most simple robberies we have ever heard of.
The men had blue lights on the cards and even dressed as policemen in an effort not to draw any attention to themselves.
While the pilot and co-pilot were held at gun-point, nobody was injured in the robbery and did not use their guns.
While it appeared to be a simplistic plan, it was carried out with thorough execution and the Belgian police will have their work cut out to find the perpetrators.
