Kenny Egan fought for the last time last night, and was recognised by the crowd at the National Stadium with a standing ovation
By Adrian Collins
One of the greatest servants to Irish boxing hung up the gloves last night, and the crowd at the national stadium showed their appreciation to the Olympic silver medallist after his loss to Joe Ward.

Egan has had somewhat of a rollercoaster ride since he won that medal in Beijing in 2008, much of which he talks about in his book My story, detailing all the things that fame brought after the Olympics, both bad and good.
His comeback and the way in which he regained control over his life to return to boxing is a great story, and with two European bronze medals and an Olympic silver, he has certainly been a fantastic performer for Ireland.
You can check out the video of the standing ovation too, in what was a great moment last night.
