The Laois County Board have confirmed the appointment of Justin McNulty as manager of the county’s senior football team.

No duration for the role was announced but it is believed that many members of the county board expressed the wish that McNulty might be given time to develop the squad after a period of underachievement in recent seasons.

McNulty played at full-back on Armagh’s All-Ireland winning side in 2002 and was a member of current manager Paddy O’Rourke’s backroom team this year. He has also enjoyed successful management spells at club level with Cavan side Mullahoran and St. Brigid’s in Dublin.

McNulty succeeds Seán Dempsey who was relieved of his position in July after two years at the helm. Before McNulty’s appointment, Padraic Joyce, Darragh Ó Sé, Mick O’Dwyer and Niall Rigney had all been linked with the vacant managerial post.
