Lead investigator in Oscar Pistorius case is facing several attempted murder charges

Detective Hilton Botha (pictured below) has been gathering evidence against the Olympic and Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius, who faces a charge of premeditated murder on his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. However, it seems the lead detective also has some questions to answer.

So far, Botha’s evidence has been somewhat shaky with The Guardian reporting that he ‘crumbled under defence cross-examination on Wednesday after he wrongly claimed to have found boxes of "testosterone" in Pistorius's bedroom and admitted that police had no evidence contradicting the athlete's version of events,’ with Pistorius claiming that he killed his girlfriend accidentally.

Police Brigadier Neville Malila from the South African police said on Thursday that detective Hilton Botha and two other police officers fired shots while trying to stop a minivan during an incident last year. They now face several charges of attempted murder in May.

Pistorius's defence is now gathering evidence to see if Botha should be removed from the investigation.
