Liverpool among top clubs chasing new Wayne Rooney

Liverpool are among the top clubs interested in Ipswich Town wonderkid Connor Wickham, regarded by Roy Keane as the new Wayne Rooney.

The 17-year-old striker is a target for a host of clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham with a £10million price tag on his head.

Ipswich manager Roy Keane has been singing the Englan youth international’s praises to the English media.

“There aren’t many Connor Wickhams around. I have a figure in my head that we’d have to consider,” Keano told the Sun.

“The big teams wouldn’t be buying him for what he’s doing now. They’re going to buy him for his potential.

“United had to buy Rooney for £28million when he was 18.

“Can Connor be as good as him? I think he has that potential.”
