Liverpool blitz Aston Villa at Anfield

Liverpool blitzed Aston Villa last night in their Premier League clash at Anfield.

Gerard Houllier’s return to his old club was not a successful one as he watched his side get thumped 3-0 by the Reds.

Roy Hodgson fielded a starting XI minus stars Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Jamie carragher.

This didn’t stop Liverpool railroading Villa and they were in front after 14 minutes through David Ngog’s header which the Villa defence failed to deal with.

Liverpool doubled their lead two minutes later when Villa were guilty of more dodgy defending as Ryan Babel lashed it past Brad Friedel.

Just 10 minutes into the second half Maxi put the icing on the cake by starting a move inside his own half and taking the return pass from Ngog to send a screamer into the top corner from outside the area.

Villa now have just two wins in their last 12 games and slump to 16th, while Liverpool move up to 8th place.
