Liverpool linked with shock January move for Manchester City winger

Liverpool have been linked with a surprise move for Manchester City winger Adam Johnson in the January transfer window.

‘Woy’ Hodgson is believed to be a big fan of the skilful 23-year old winger and is ready to capitalise on Johnson’s apparent disillusionment with life at Eastlands with a move for the player in January.

Despite some impressive performances since signing from Middlesbrough in January and recent call ups to the England squad, Johnson is frequently left on the bench by City manager Roberto Mancini and has been restricted to cameo roles off the bench.

Mancini has publicly criticised Johnson’s attitude, particularly after he was caught on camera recently alongside Shay Given, Joe Hart and Gareth Barry drinking in a student house following a golfing trip to Scotland.

The public criticism and lack of game time has made Johnson a frustrated figure and he has admitted that he would consider leaving the club in search of first team football.

“It is still early but I definitely would consider (leaving),” he said.

Johnson recently cited the mind numbingly boring Manchester derby as a game that he could have made a significant impact on, but wasn’t given the chance by his manager, who unleashed him from the bench with only 17 minutes remaining.

“It is disappointing when you are not playing from the start in games like that,” he said.

“I was itching to get on. I was dying to play from the start not just come on. The manager has to make decisions but I was gutted to be left out.”
