Just while he’s out injured, you understand.

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva hopes that the Reds dip into the transfer market on Friday to bring Dutch reducer Nigel de Jong to Anfield from AC Milan.

The 27-year-old Lucas is out for the next two months with a knee ligament injury and wants Brendan Rodgers to bring former Manchester City midfielder de Jong back to the Premier League for the sake of their Champions League hopes.

Lucas told ESPN Brazil: “He is a good player and produced many good performances at Manchester City.

“If he comes it will be good for the squad because it’s important to have a strong squad.

“I believe that if anyone comes who plays in my position it will not be because of my injury but rather to strengthen the squad.”

De Jong’s place at Milan is under threat following the signing of Michael Essien from Chelsea last week, and it is thought that the Dutchman could be available on loan at the very least.
