Magnificent performance earns Ulster rare Cardiff win

A magnificent second half performance ensured an Ulster away victory – their first in eight matches against the Cardiff Blues.

The Blues scored the first try of the match through New Zealander Casey Laulala, before Ulster hit back with a try from Craig Gilroy.

An Ian Humphreys penalty put Ulster ahead, before Adam D'Arcy was shown a yellow card for a deliberate knock-on.

While he was in the sin bin, Tom James went over the try-line and the home side went into half-time with a 15-8 lead.

The second period was a different story, however, and a penalty and a try early in the half from Humphreys completely turned the game on its head.

D'Arcy went over almost immediatly from the restart, before a 30 yard run by substitute Willie Faloon was rewarded with another seven points.

With the bonus point assured, a mistake from Gareth Williams left Paddy Wallace in, before Humphreys’ conversion rubbed salt in Cardiff wounds.
