Major overnight water shortages in Dublin

Many parts of the capital have seen their water supply cut off on Tuesday evening as restrictions have been put in place across the city.

Following the major thaw on Sunday, burst water mains have resulted in a sever shortage of water in many areas.

As a result, a number of areas have had their mains supply cut off from 6pm on Tuesday 28 December until noon on Wednesday 29 December. Other areas will see their water pressure reduced.

According to the Dublin City Council website: "The Council is working 24 hours a day locating and fixing leaks.

"We ask for the continued support of the public in keeping their use of water to a minimum.

"This situation is likely to continue for the next week."
