Manchester United chase £16m Van der Sar replacement

Manchester United are reported to be looking at replacing Edwin van der Sar with Schalke and Germany international goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Neur is valued at £16 million and has also attracted interest from German giants Bayern Munich.

However, Alex Ferguson is eager to bring the 24-year-old to Old Trafford to take over from van der Sar who will retire at the end of the season.

United have already confirmed the arrival of the Dane Anders Lindegaard but Ferguson describes him as “one for the future”.

Neuer recently refused a new contract at Schalke, and had a public falling out with the manager after the team lost 5-0 to Kaiserslauten this weekend, which bodes well for a switch to the Premier League leaders.
