Mancini future uncertain

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has received no guarantees from the club's owners that he will be in charge at Eastlands next season.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has insisted he wants to stay at the club next season but admits that his future is not in his hands.

Mancini replaced Mark Hughes as City manager in December with the aim of delivering Champions League football for next season. City currently lie in sixth place behind Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur but have to play both sides at home in their three remaining fixtures with fourth place still within reach.

But Mancini has said that he wants to remain at the club whether or not the club qualify for the Champions League.

“I want to stay 200%, and if the owner wants me to stay, I will. I think I will be manager in August,” the Italian said.

Whether or not he is in charge at the start of the next campaign will not be down to Mancini, however, if his response to a question asking him whether he had been given any guarantees by the owners is anything to go by.

“No, I don’t know this. I can’t decide this. I can decide the training and the players but other things are decided by the owners,” he said.

“I have three years left on my contract and I am here to make us a top team next year. I think we have a fantastic chance to become a very important team next year if we build, if we work hard and if we have time.”
