Mayo star Mortimer may miss 2011 campaign

Mayo talisman Conor Mortimer could be out of action for the entire season if he decides to go under the knife to repair a long-term knee injury.

The corner-forward sustained a tear in his medial ligament while training with UUJ before Christmas and it looks as though surgery is the only option for repair, having played for seven years with no cruciate ligament in the same knee.

"Fairly bad is how I would put it,” Mortimer said.

"I won't know until the end of the month when the medial ligament injury clears up and I can see just how bad the knee is. I've managed to go without the cruciate for so long, but now may be the time to get it over and done with.

"I might have to draw a line under the season altogether and that's not the greatest thought in the world."
