McDowell named 2010 RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year

US Open champion and Ryder Cup hero Graeme McDowell was named 2010 RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year last night.

The Portrush golfer was recognised for his outstanding successes this year with the coveted award.

McDowell claimed his first PGA Tour victory, becoming the first ever Irishman to win the US Open and the first European to win it in 40 years, before going on to play a pivotal role in the European Ryder Cup winning team with an incredible putt on the 16th hole of the deciding singles match.

G-mac also battled back in the final round of the 2010 Chevron World Challenge to beat Tiger Woods in a playoff. He also took home the Andalucía Valderrama Masters.
