McEnaney confirmed as Meath manager

Seamus McEnaney was last night confirmed as manager of the Meath senior football team after being given the approval of the County Board.

At a meeting in Navan, delegates voted 53-19 in McEnaney’s favour, meaning that he will be the first man from outside the county to manage the Royals.

McEnaney’s appointment brings an end to a prolonged saga to appoint Eamonn O’Brien’s successor, with many within the county reported to be against the Monaghan man’s appointment.

McEnaney will now set about trying to retain the Leinster title won in such controversial circumstances against Louth in July. His backroom team will consist of Meath legends Liam Harnan and Mick O’Connell, as well as Paul Grimley and Martin McElkennon, who worked alongside McEnaney during his time in charge of Monaghan.
