Rory McIlroy has been left fuming after claims were made that he has bought a Bugatti Veyron worth €1.5 million.

An article in the Sunday independent stated that McIlroy had purchased the supercar, although that was not the case.

According to their sources, they claimed: “flash wheels are due to arrive in the coming week and are about to make the Co Down boy’s widest dreams come true.”

Rory doesn't own one of these beauties

McIlroy, who is ranked as the eighth best golfer in the world, reacted to the article by tweeting that it was “total bollocks”.

Although his tweet was directed negatively at the Belfast Telegraph, it had been sourced as a piece from the Sunday Independent. The 21 year-old claimed that he would “never do anything with the Belfast Telegraph again!!”

Since McIlroy’s tweet, the Belfast Telegraph has updated the article to show that he was unhappy with the piece written by the Sunday Independent, and not them.
