Rory McIlroy tees off in the Players Championship today with two things on his mind – the Ryder Cup in October and a proper 21st birthday celebration next Monday.
The Northern Irishman is second to Lee Westwood in the standings for the Ryder Cup team and is set to make his debut at Celtic Manor later on this year.
McIlroy turned 21 yesterday but as a true professional following his US PGA Tour victory at Quali Hollow last weekend he choose to put celebrations on the long finger.
“It’s a huge week. I can party all I want when I get home on Monday. I’ll just have a couple of beers tonight (Wednesday), a get-together with a few friends.†said the sensible golfer.
McIlroy tees off in Florida today at 1.28pm with Ian Poulter and Hunter Mahan.
